MEMBARTSHO (Burning Lake):

Located in Bumthang Dzongkhag (district) in Central Bhutan, Membartsho is a sacred pool of water along the Tang Chhu (river) that winds its way through verdant and pristine forests. According to Bhutanese history, Pema Lingpa found several terma (religious treasures) of Guru Rinpoche here.  A wooden bridge spans the small but deep, dark lake.  The faithful believe that only enlightened beings will be able to see a temple beneath the deep waters. Many handmade small clay statues, called tsha-tsha are placed in the rocky niches along the path to Membartsho.
